BOILERS
New Building Regulations Governing Boilers
The UK Government has reviewed Part L of the Building Regulations
for England and Wales, in order to make buildings more energy efficient
and tackle climate change. The changes were effective from April 2005,
and will mean homes will need to be better insulated and use more efficient
heating systems.
Around 28% of the UK's carbon dioxide emissions come from the domestic sector,
with the majority of this caused by the production of heating and hot water in our homes.
The Regulations require that new and replacement gas boilers fitted after 1st April
2005 must be at least 78% efficient. In the majority of cases the boiler will be
a condensing boiler; the rest will be high efficiency boilers. Oil boilers will
not be affected until April 2007.
